The current study will expand the scope of ongoing research in the Department of Behavioral Science and focus on the impact of prostate cancer on both the patient's and the spouse's quality of life. We will use the term "spouse" to refer to the patient's wife or cohabiting female partner.
The aims of the study are to:
1. Develop a measure that assesses aspects of relationship intimacy that may be affected by prostate cancer
2. Characterize the QOL and adjustment of the spouses of men with prostate cancer
3. Examine the association between the patient's QOL and the spouse's QOL and
4. Examine the mediating and moderating effects of the quality of the relationship (sexual relations, intimacy, communication patterns, and marital distress), coping style, social support, disease stage, and type of treatment on the QOL of spouses of men with prostate cancer. |
