Study Objectives / Outcomes
1. Study 1A: To examine the combined effects of morphine and a behavioral intervention (mental distraction) on pain tolerance and pain rating (both intensity and unpleasantness) in normal subjects.

2. Study 1B: To examine the combined effects of morphine and a behavioral intervention (positive mood induction) on pain tolerance and pain ratings (both intensity and unpleasantness) in normal subjects.

Inclusion Criteria:1) Volunteers between 18 and 40 years of age

2) English speaking
Exclusion Criteria:1) Current enrollment in an educational placement in the UTMDACC Department of Anesthesiology

2) Chronic disease or emotional disturbance

3) Substance abuse

4) Current pregnancy, breast feeding, or on menses

5) Coexisting pain condition
