Inclusion Criteria:Pts with alopecia areata,children or adults with alopecia universalis, alopecia totalis, patchy persistent AA or transient mild AA.

Family members (related by blood) of these pts, preferable sib-pairs plus parents & multiplex families.

Age and/or sex matched controls from spouses, significant others or friends.

Age and/or sex-matched controls (unlrelated by blood and unaffected with AA) from spouses, significant others or friends, or adopted family members.

Residence in the U.S.A.
Exclusion Criteria:Pts under the age of 18 yrs not accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Pts unable to comprehend the informed consent & has no responsible party.

Non-confirmation of the diagnosis by a physician.

Non-residence in the U.S.A.
